Point-7 introduces the first fully Q-Bonded windsurf sail
The Q-Bond technology
Engineering that brings a stronger, more durable, higher reflex sail body, lighter on land and on water weight, no deformation between panels, compact feeling, higher overall perfmance and more aerodynamic sail.
Q-Bond sail technology is an innovative bonding system developed by Q-Bond, designed to enhance the construction of high-performance sails. This technology utilizes ultrasonic activation to bond sail panels together, eliminating the need for traditional stitching and reducing weight. The process involves applying Q-Bond tape to the edges of sail panels, which is then activated using a Mobile Activation Device (MAM). MAM emits ultrasonic energy, causing the adhesive in the tape to melt and bond the panels seamlessly. This method results in strong, durable joints that maintain the sail’s integrity under stress.
The Q-Bond system offers several advantages over conventional stitching methods. It reduces the overall weight of the sail without sacrificing material thickness, which can improve performance, especially in racing conditions. The seamless joints also contribute to a smoother surface, reducing drag and enhancing aerodynamic efficiency. Additionally, the absence of stitching holes reduces the potential for water ingress, leading to longer-lasting sails. The absence of holes also gives less stretch between the panels, increasing the reflex and acceleration of the sail. This is a result of a compact and direct feeling which makes the sail feel lighter and easier in gusts. Less wear thanks to the absence of threads that hold the structure.
Unterschiede zwischen der Point-7 Q-Bond Technik und genähten Segeln
Construction
- Genähtes Segel: Classic stitched panels, battle-forged. Tough, proven, and ready for war on the water.
- Q-Bond: Seamless single-panel Q-Bond lamination. Ultrasonic fused. Pure race geometry locked.
Weight
- Genähtes Segel: Slightly heavier—built like armor to take hits and keep charging.
- Q-Bond: Feather-light. Instant response, explosive acceleration, zero compromise.
Durability
- Genähtes Segel: Forgiving and unstoppable. Survives crashes, gusts, and daily slalom assaults.
- Q-Bond: Precision-focused. A surgical blade—handle it like a champion, or it cuts you instead.
Performance Feel
- Genähtes Segel: Smooth, stable, and predictable across wide wind ranges. Control you can trust.
- Q-Bond: Brutal, raw, and razor-sharp. Maximum drive, violent starts, surgical gybes.
Target Rider
- Genähtes Segel: Riders who want consistent domination with control and confidence.
- Q-Bond: Elite killers who demand nothing less than first place. Second is not an option.
Exclusivity
- Genähtes Segel: Trusted by pros and hardcore chargers. Top-level performance accessible to many.
- Q-Bond: Rare. Premium. Untouchable. The sail of champions, reserved for pure victory hunters.
This technology has been adopted by various sailmakers in sail boats, but POINT-7 is proud to be the first to present a full Q-BOND sail, thanks to years of secret testing in the hardest conditions available.
Thanks to the innovative technology and batten tensioner system, these sails are now also using an overlapping of the battens decreasing further the weight of the sail, and increasing symmetry, by enhancing performance of the product.
Q-Bond’s approach to sail construction represents a significant advancement in sailmaking, combining precision engineering with innovative superior performance and durability.
Mattia Mojoli, Sail Designer & Developer
“The Q-Bond construction eliminates all traditional stitching holes, allowing for significantly fewer reinforcements. This results in a sail that is stronger, lighter, and features a cleaner, more aerodynamic structure. While there have been sails on the market that were partially Q-Bonded or Ultra Bonded, this is the first true production sail that is fully Q-Bonded. It still uses monofilms like other high-performance sails, maintaining the same proven profiles, twist, and torsion that have contributed to Point-7’s success.”
Andrea Cucchi, R&D and Tester
“The Q-Bond technology fuses all the panels into a single piece, eliminating overstretch caused by holes and threads found in traditional sails. Without the need for reinforcement stitching and thanks to the overlap batten tensioner design, the sail remains exceptionally light—not just on the beach, but also on the water. The reflex response of the sail is significantly faster, giving it a more compact feel, improved ease of handling, and the sensation of riding a smaller size. The result is a broader wind range and enhanced stability.”
